You see, perhaps the only thing that comes close to our passion about the law and Estate Planning, is our passion for sports. Especially Port Adelaide!
6 weeks into the season, and having just returned from watching Port v Richmond at the MCG, I thought now is a good time to review the season so far.
The surprises
Greater Western Sydney (GWS)- perhaps more so following their smashing of Hawthorn. Yet, even before, GWS have shown that they will be a threat to all sides in season 2016. It all comes down to whether they have the youth to handle the pressure that comes with the second half of the season when premierships are won.
Adelaide – as much as it pains me to admit, the Crows have been outstanding in their attack and defence. They should have won against Hawthorn, but didn’t. However, with a ledger of 4 – 2 they are setting themselves for a huge tilt at the title.
Fremantle – well it looks like their goose is cooked. They re-signed Ross Lyon clearly with the hope that this year may be their year; but more importantly, that he would rebuild the team. Personally I never liked Lyon’s negative style of play, so I’m not upset at his inability to win.
St Kilda – I realise that the Saints win/loss ratio is not too good. But anyone who has seen the Saints live or watched on TV would have to be impressed by the run and the way they play. Alan Richardson has the game plan and the ability to make his players believe. They won’t win the flag this year but watch out 2018 and beyond.
Port Adelaide – Now to my beloved Port Adelaide. Well, we sit at 3 – 3 an even 500 in baseball parlance. There had been debacles against GWS and another side that slips my memory (or I’m deliberately blocking it out). The GWS game seems less like an aberration following their win against Hawthorn but nonetheless, Port has been inconsistent at best, and lacked sufficient passion and desire at worst. The draw favours Port, but as we have seen this year, any team can win on their given day.
Injuries haven’t helped but this can’t be used as an excuse. On a positive note, we have uncovered great young players in Darcy Byrne-Jones and Dougal Howard. Jasper Pittard, despite being the source of great frustration, is well on his way to winning his first Best and Fairest.
The next 6 weeks…..
The next 6 weeks will decide whether the ladder, and in particular the top 8, is set. With Richmond still self-destructing and 12 teams vying for 8 spots, it should be a defining period.
